This is the translation into english:

To the Minister of Labor, Health and Social Policies

Since dental amalgam is composed of about 50% liquid mercury that evaporates at the temperature of the mouth and can be absorbed into the body through the saliva, oral mucous membranes in the digestive tract and in oral mucosal;

Since, according to the WHO, the amalgam is the primary source of exposure to mercury vapor;

Since during the removal of old amalgam fillings, there may be a significant release of mercury vapors; Since there are alternatives on the market containing less toxic substances, based on composite plastics;

Since the Food and Drug Administration recently warned consumers of the possible risks that amalgam fillings pose to sensitive people;

Since several studies have suggested a correlation between exposure to mercury from dental dall'amalgama and various diseases such as multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, and generally a correlation with autoimmune diseases and neurological disorders;

Since the use of mercury in dental fillings is a form of preventable environmental pollution (pollution is through the human body fluids, through cremation, disposal via from the dental practice that don't have separation machines, etc.). ;

Despite the lack of scientific consensus on the dangers posed by amalgam;

Under the precautionary principle advocated by the European Parliament on 4 September 2008 with the Mid-term Action Plan for Environment and Health 2004-2010;

The petitioners demand that the Italian Ministry of Health prohibites the use of dental amalgam on a nationwide and promotes the training of dentists for the proper removal of amalgam with quadruple protection safety protocol (oxygen mask, slow drill at low-speed with cutting around amalgam without touching it, rubber dam, strong aspiration) and imposing, with a strict law, the use of amalgam separator in dental practice.
