No MCS, no treatments

7 dicembre 2008 - An article published on La Nuova Ferrara, daily newspaper of the city of Ferrara, describes the situation of MCS in Italy now.

The Superior Council of Health, the scientific arm of the ministry of Health, has just published a position paper about MCS, claiming that “it doesn’t seem as a real illness and there are no evidences in the scientific literature”.

Moreover, a 43-year old lady from Ferrara with severe MCS has just lost a legal controversy vs the ASL (the agengy of health assistance of the punlich health services) and the local administration of the Regione Emilia Romagna for the reimboursment of therapies.

At the first grade the judge decided she was right and made the Asl pay to her 15.000 euros, that she had spent for IV of vitamines, gluthation and minerals from a german doctor who went to her house (she can not travel, not even enter a hospital).

Now the joudge of the Court of Appeal of Ferrara, Roberto Vignatti, decides that she must give back that sum. According to the judge Vignatti there aren’t scientific proves of the efficacy of the therapy, even though the family doctor of the lady testified that she was much better after the treatment.

The judge believed to the doctors of the center of Bologna for MCS at the hospital Sant’Orsola who claim to be able to treat any MCS patient, but how? The lady from Ferrara denunced to the newspaper that the assistance given by the ASL is a nurse that comes to take samples for blood test and a cardiological consultation once a year. The woman criticized also the center of S.Orsola for not giving her any therapy and for not being physically fir for the MCS access, since now there are restoration works.

A few days after the position paper of the Superior Council for Health, the doctor that works for MCS at the hospital Sant’Orsola says that he will not have his contract renewed on december.
